Implant Restorations

Implant Restorations

Each year millions of Americans lose their teeth due to accident, injury, or disease. Whether you need a single tooth replaced or several, dental implants are frequently the best option.  After a patient has been released by the periodontist, Dr. O'Brien restores dental implants in our office.

What are dental implants?
Dental implants are small, titanium tooth roots that an oral surgeon places in the jawbone. Titanium has been used in the medical field for over 50 years; it’s the same material from which artificial hips and joints are made. The body accepts the titanium as a natural substance and the bone grows around it. This creates a permanent, stable anchor for a replacement tooth or replacement teeth.

How many dental implants will I need?
One dental implant will replace a single missing tooth. If you are missing several or all of your teeth, the periodontist can strategically place a few implants to which our doctors will secure a bridgepartial, or denture. The exact number of dental implants depends on a variety of factors, including the number of missing teeth, bone density, and medical history.

Are dental implants right for me?
Most patients are candidates for dental implants. Even medically compromised patients can receive dental implants with a little extra planning. Routine procedures like bone and sinus grafts can enable patients with low bone density to receive dental implants. The surgery is highly predictable, and overall, dental implants have a success rate of 98%.
